Weekly Reader's Response Due 4/29/11

Our next BIG assignment is to select a biography about a person you are interested in learning more about.
Have you decided who you would like to read about yet?  If so, tell us who the person is.  If not, tell us who
you are thinking of reading about.  Are you having trouble deciding who to read about?  Think about what you're interested in and ask me, your parents, or a friend if they know a person that fits into your interests.

What do you think will be different or similar about reading a biography compared to reading other texts?
Do you think all the same strategies apply?  What purpose questions will you have when reading about
a person you don't know much about?

Write in complete sentences and make sure to answer all sections of the blog.

  1. I have choose to read a book about Ben Franklin. It is my opinion that he seems very interesting. I think a biography will be different because a biography is about a person and other texts, novels, are mostly made up stories. I think the same strategies will apply but, they might be a little bit different. One purpose question I have is How Is Ben Franklin a hero?

  3. i have decied to do John Quincy Adams because he seems like a very interesting person. I think reading a biography will be diffrent from reading other books because I will be reading about a person and that person's life, not a fiction book. My purpose question is, Will I learn some facts about John Quincy Adams?I think the same strategies apply. It is just like reading any other book just a diffrent kind a genre

  4. Yes, I have decided to do John Adams. I don’t know much about him; all I know is that he is a president. The difference between biographies and other text is that a biography is when some one writes about a (Hero, or Famous) person. However other texts have multiple subjects. Examples are frogs (different types), cats, dogs, and bears. I think that the same strategies apply to biographies. What made him so famous???

  5. I have decided to do Ben Franklin. I think reading a biography will be the same as reading a novel in informational text.
I think all the same strategies will apply but, the organizers may be different. One purpose question I will have is; What did Ben Franklin do to become so important.

  6. I am doing a biography on Eleanor Roosevelt. I think what will be different will be biographys talk about mainly one person. Books talk about many people. I think the same strtegies apply because I think you still have to do before reading, during reading, and after reading. One purpose question i would ask is what does he or she do?. The last question I would ask is why is this person important?

  7. I am going to do Thomas Edison. I am going to do him because i think i can get a lot of information on him because he invented a light bulb. One purpose question i have for him is how did he make a light bulb? And what made him think of making a light bulb? I think a biography is different than other texts because a biography is about a person. and in other texts they can have different things in it besides just one person.

  8. I am interested in the person who invented the first American flag. I think her first name is Betty. I want to know how long it took her to make the American flag. And I also want to know what year it was when she made the American flag. I think biography will be like a story, like in a text.

  9. I'm doing Helen Keller. I want to do her because I thought it was cool that she was blind and def and overcame that to help others with problems like her. I think that a biography is going to be different then other texts. Its different because a biography is all about a spacific person. But a different text can be about a lot of people. You can't use all the same organizers. What are some things the person did to help.

  10. My biograph is about J F k or John F Kennedy.I think it will be diffrent than reading text, Because other texts aren't about a certin person but some are.another reason is because the text is by someone else wich is not who the person their talking about.

  11. I have not officially decided my person yet, but i might want to do "Jack the Ripper" because he was a mystery, and no-one really knew who he was many people have different theory’s and have written many biographies about him. I searched on the Urbana Library site and they have over 15 different biographies. Although Jack the Ripper is not a hero, he is still interesting in my opinion.
I think reading a biography might be different then other texts because it will be written in time order rather than something else. I don’t know much about my person but I wish to find out a lot. My purpose questions will be something like "when did this person live?", or "what did he/she do that was so important?"

  14. I would love to study Alexander the great. I will read about all his great battles and how he survived an arrow to the lung. I also think this will be interesting because no one knows if he is real, what he looks like, or how he died. I already knew Alexander the great was involved with war because he is a roman that goes down in history. One last thing I would like to know is what he did when he accomplished his last mission.

  16. i think it will be different then any-other text. Because when your read a biography you are looking for special events. some of the strategy's may apply still to a biography. But some may not apply because when you read a biography you make a time line to organize the events in order.my purpose question will be different because it will be about the one person not anything else.i have picked sitting bull because i like learning about Indians but it was only 78 pages.

  17. I think it will be different because a biography is about one person and a book is about a story. I think all of the strategies will be same because it still has a begging, middle, and end. My purpose question is what year was he president. Another question is if he didn’t become president what job would he might get. What was his wife job and did she help Abraham Lincoln.

  18. I am existed but not the part where you have to dress up like the person you are doing on your biography and I am existed when we have to wright about your your person and you have to read the book and you got to do some work work in class and that's what I am going to do so I don't have to do more homework for the day and so I can play with friends or I can play with my family and if I soccer practice and other stuff but all the biography things I said will be really fun to do instead of test and things like that.

  19. I have not decieded on a person to read about. But I am thinking about Thomas Edison maybe. I am not having any trouble on decieding. Something different might be you are reading about some ones life instead of a story. Something similar might be that in the persons life they might of made up storys and told them or tell storys. Yes all the same strategies apply to picking a biograghy. How was the persons life? When was he/she born? Where did he/she live? Where was he/she born?

  20. I am doing my biography on Martin Luther King Jr. It was very easy for me to decide he is an intresting person and it was the first person to come to my head. I think if your intrested in the person your reading about then it would be a lot more entertaining then reading other reading texts. Yes, I think all of the same strategies apply because there both kind of about the same topic. When was he born and when did he die?

  21. I will do John Lennon. The reason is that he protested against a war. Also, he was a great leader. He leaded the world famous band of the 60's The Beatles! reading a biography will be different because it is about a certain person or couple people. Yes. how is this person important?, How did he/she get famous? and so on

  22. I think I'm going to do Franklin Delano Roosevelt. He is very interesting and I know very little about him. I think I'm going to enjoy reading about him. I had very little trouble deciding who to do. I think all the same stratigies apply because you're still just reading a book. My main purpose question is: When did Franklin Delano Roosevelt get polio? I can't wait to start reading about him!

  23. I am reading Aung San Suu Kyi. Mr. Stambugh helped me find it and I didn't know who to pick but she looked interesting. I think that a biography is easier to read because its just about one person. Others might think that a regular book is more entertaining because it has more action and adventure. But I also think that you could find someone that you like and it could be entertaining. Also the same strategies do apply because they are both a story from beginning to end. Finally a purpose question I have is how did she get famous?

  24. I was thinking about doing Ronald Regan. He is a politician and he was an actor. He was also very old and still seemed young.Biographies are longer and have more dates in them. Our purpose questions will be more about their lives and about what they were to society.

  25. I'm going to do Genghis Khan. I don't find anything that troubles me about finding a book. I think the biography will be different from other texts by it focusing mostly on a character and events related to a character while other texts could jump to different subjects. Some of my questions are when he was born? When he died and how he died? Why he was famous? Who was his family and what did they do?
